History, Ownership & Accreditation
A Legacy Dating Back to Pre-Independence India
Dr. B.L. Kapur, an eminent obstetrician and gynecologist, first set up a charitable hospital in Lahore in 1930. Following Partition in 1947, he relocated to India and established a maternity hospital in Ludhiana. In 1956, at the invitation of the Prime Minister, Dr. Kapur began work on a 200-bed hospital in Delhi — inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 2 January, 1959. By its Silver Jubilee in 1984, the hospital had grown into one of Delhi's premier multi-specialty institutions.
The hospital underwent major redevelopment starting in 2010 under Radiant Life Care, re-launching as a 650-bed multi-super-speciality facility with 125 critical care beds and 20 modular operation theatres. It became the youngest hospital in India at the time to achieve both NABH and NABL accreditation, and today operates as part of the Max Healthcare network, reflected in its "BLK-Max" name.
