View Hospital →India's first JCI-accredited hospital, and the country's busiest liver and kidney transplant programs, on a 15-acre campus in South Delhi.
Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals is a 710-bed, JCI-accredited multi-specialty tertiary care hospital in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi — notable for being a rare Public-Private Partnership, jointly promoted by the Delhi Government (26% stake) and the Apollo Hospitals Group. Established in 1996, it became the first internationally accredited hospital in India and South Asia in 2005, and was re-accredited by JCI four consecutive times, itself a first for an Indian hospital. With 52 specialties under one roof, it's known for one of India's busiest multi-organ transplant programs and advanced cancer care, including a Varian Edge® Radiosurgery system introduced in 2026.
About the hospital
Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals was established through Indraprastha Medical Corporation Limited (IMCL), incorporated in 1988 as a joint venture between the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Apollo Hospitals Group — founded by Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, the pioneer of India's corporate hospital sector. This makes it one of the few major Indian hospitals structured as a genuine public-private partnership: the Delhi Government holds roughly 26% of the share capital, the Apollo Hospitals Group around 25%, with the remaining stake publicly traded on Indian stock exchanges.
The hospital opened in 1996 on a 15-acre campus in Sarita Vihar, and in 2005 became the first hospital in India and South Asia to receive JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation — the same standard held by leading hospitals in the US, UK, and Gulf region. It was re-accredited by JCI four consecutive times, the first Indian hospital to achieve this.

Once you share your medical reports, our medical coordination team identifies the specific specialist(s) at Apollo whose experience best matches your condition. Apollo's own International Patient team also has a senior consultant review each case before you travel, giving you two levels of review — HealPassage's initial assessment, and Apollo's own clinical review — before any treatment plan is finalized.
Getting there & settling in
Apollo's International Patient Lounge, located near Gate No. 10, is built specifically around the logistics of traveling to Delhi for treatment. Here's what's in place, plus a few practical requirements worth knowing before you book your flight.
Apollo assists with the documentation needed for your Medical Visa (MED), including the Medical Visa Invitation Letter required by most embassies and consulates.
Pickup and drop-off between the airport and hospital is arranged for international patients as part of standard International Patient services.
Translators are available at the International Patient Lounge to support communication with your medical team throughout your visit.
Assistance arranging accommodation for you and accompanying companions, alongside coordination of all your medical appointments during your stay.
The International Patient Lounge offers Wi-Fi internet, mobile SIM cards, lockers, shopping and recreational options, and cuisine to suit different dietary preferences.
Before you travel, a senior consultant reviews your clinical history and reports to confirm treatment options and the most suitable plan — done remotely, ahead of your trip.
A Medical Visa (not a Tourist Visa) is mandatory if you're traveling for organ transplantation or cancer treatment. A Medical Visa also allows for extension during treatment if needed — something a Tourist Visa does not permit.
FRRO registration is required at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office within 14 days of arrival if your stay exceeds 180 days (unless your visa states otherwise). Apollo's International Patient team assists with this.
Patients from Pakistan and Afghanistan are required to register with the nearest local police station within 24 hours of arrival, regardless of length of stay.
Apollo's International Patient team handles the on-the-ground logistics and visa documentation once your treatment plan is confirmed. HealPassage's role is what happens before that — reviewing your case, getting you an all-inclusive cost estimate, and making sure your reports reach Apollo's specialists in a form they can act on quickly, so nothing gets delayed at the visa or documentation stage.
Common questions
Answers to what patients most commonly ask about this specific hospital.
It's a Public-Private Partnership — the Delhi Government holds roughly 26% ownership, the Apollo Hospitals Group around 25%, with the remainder publicly traded on Indian stock exchanges. This structure is fairly rare among major Indian hospitals and reflects its origins as a joint government-Apollo initiative dating back to 1988.
It was the first hospital in India and South Asia to receive JCI accreditation (2005), and is known for one of the country's busiest liver and kidney transplant programs, alongside strong cardiology, oncology, and orthopedic departments.
A Medical Visa (not a Tourist Visa) is mandatory specifically for organ transplant and cancer treatment, and is generally recommended for other treatments too, since it allows for extension if your treatment takes longer than expected. Apollo's International Patient team assists with the required documentation, including the Medical Visa Invitation Letter.
If your stay exceeds 180 days, FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) registration is required within 14 days of arrival, and Apollo assists with this. Patients from Pakistan and Afghanistan must additionally register with the nearest local police station within 24 hours of arrival, regardless of stay length.
Yes, both are included as part of standard International Patient Lounge services, along with accommodation coordination and Wi-Fi, SIM cards, and other practical facilities at the lounge, located near Gate No. 10.

JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation, first achieved in 2005 and re-accredited four consecutive times since — the first Indian hospital to do so.
Share your medical reports and condition details with HealPassage, and if Apollo is a good fit for your case, we'll coordinate with their specialists to get you a treatment plan and cost estimate — typically within 24-48 hours.
