Specialty questions

Questions about choosing a specialty

For questions about HealPassage as a company, visit our About page instead.

Can I get treatment for more than one condition in a single trip? +

Often, yes — for example, a cardiac evaluation alongside a joint consultation, if both are relevant to your health. Combining unrelated procedures depends on your overall fitness for multiple treatments, so this is something your treating doctors will assess and advise on directly, rather than something we can confirm upfront.

Do I need a referral letter from my doctor back home? +

A referral isn't mandatory, but any existing diagnosis, scans, test results, or notes from your home doctor help our medical team and the treating specialist prepare a more accurate treatment plan before you travel. If you don't have a formal diagnosis yet, we can still guide you based on your symptoms.

How do you decide which specialist or hospital is right for my case? +

Once you share your medical reports, our medical coordination team reviews your case and matches it to specialists whose experience fits your specific condition — not just your general specialty. You'll typically be offered more than one hospital or doctor option so you can compare and choose.

Can I get a second opinion before deciding on a treatment plan? +

Yes. In fact, we encourage it for major procedures like transplants, cardiac surgery, or cancer treatment. We can arrange a second video consultation with a different specialist if you'd like an independent view before committing.

Do I have to travel to India just for a consultation? +

No. Initial consultations, report reviews, and even video calls with specialists can typically be done remotely, before you travel. Most patients only fly to India once a treatment plan and cost estimate have already been confirmed.

What if my condition doesn't clearly fit into one specialty? +

That's common, especially with complex or long-standing conditions. You don't need to figure out the right specialty yourself — share what you're experiencing through our consultation form, and our medical team will route your case to the appropriate specialist, or a multidisciplinary team if needed.
